Trail Spotlight: Little Sugar Creek Greenway

LSCG. Amy Moore. 6.27 (39)

Chances are if you’ve spent time in Uptown Charlotte you’ve been on the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, but did you know it’s a part of the Carolina Thread Trail? This paved trail runs from the NoDa neighborhood to the Park Road Shopping Center and past SouthPark Mall. This will ultimately be a 15-mile-long connected trail, but there are currently three major segments totaling over 4.5 miles- Cordelia Park to 12th St., Brandywine Rd. to 7th St., and Huntingtowne Farm Park. Avoid the traffic by using this greenway instead of a vehicle to get to shops, restaurants and other attractions.

The Ruth G. Shaw Trail runs through the UNC Charlotte campus, but serves more than the student population. This 1.6-mile trail connects users to a larger trail system and runs along Toby Creek, providing respite from the built-up communities nearby.

Similarly, the Long Creek Trail connects to a larger trail system since it exists within the US National Whitewater Center. However, it is an example of the flourishing rural areas within Mecklenburg County.
