Destinations that could be linked by the Carolina Thread Trail:
Lincolnton, NC, is a small downtown historic district located in Lincoln County, NC. This area was incorporated in 1785; Lincolnton is the second oldest incorporated city in North Carolina west of the Catawba River. Its tree-lined streets, particularly West Main Street and South Aspen Street, boast of a number of historic homes constructed in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Lake Norman's surface area, when filled to capacity, is 32,510 acres with a shoreline of 520 miles and a main channel 34 miles in length — thus its nickname, the "Inland Sea." It is home to Lake Norman State Park, which covers 13 miles of the shoreline and provides boating access. The park also boasts its own 33-acre lake where fishing and boating are enjoyed. And with hiking trails, picnic areas, interpretive programs and campgrounds, there's more to Lake Norman State Park than merely water.
