Lake Norman
Lake Norman’s surface area, when filled to capacity, is 32,510 acres with a shoreline of 520 miles and a main channel 34 miles in length — thus its nickname, the “Inland Sea.” It is home to Lake Norman State Park, which covers 13 miles of the shoreline and provides boating access. The park also boasts its own 33-acre lake where fishing and boating are enjoyed. And with hiking trails, picnic areas, interpretive programs and campgrounds, there’s more to Lake Norman State Park than merely water.

Little Sugar Creek Greenway
According to Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation Department, when complete, the greenway will feature 15 miles of paths, habitats and flowing water from Cordelia Park just north of uptown, through the Midtown Square area, then on to the South Carolina line, conveniently linking CPCC, Carolinas Medical Center and the Park Road and Carolina Place shopping areas.
The initial legs of the Carolina Thread Trail were designated in the Mecklenburg County Master Greenway Plan Update that was adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on May 7th, 2008. Additional legs may be added once the county engages additional municipalities into the process. The second phase of designations is expected to be complete within a year.
