"Leading the dedicated group of volunteers who will help make the Carolina Thread Trail a reality is a rare privilege. Creating a living landmark that will nurture generations to come is a historic opportunity – and it is imperative that we get to work on it now, before that opportunity is gone forever.
The Carolina Thread Trail project is unique. It connects communities through a regional trail master plan – and through the process that helps each community plan for its own trails. It has a regional vision, and it depends on local decision-making to realize that vision. It builds on what we already have, and embraces new ideas for diverse trails, greenways, and blueways in our rapidly developing region.
The Carolina Thread Trail will use the generous contributions of individuals and corporations – led by gifts from Foundation For The Carolinas and Duke Energy – to leverage public funding for an interconnected trail system that is owned and maintained by local jurisdictions. Open to all; free to all; a timeless natural resource preserved.
This is one awe-inspiring idea! And we can make it happen, right here in the Carolinas. Let's start this Thread spinning!"
