Spring Catawba Wildflower Glen Hike
April 23rd, 10-11:30 AM

Come visit the Catawba Land Conservancy’s first land acquisition, a small north-facing cove near the Catawba River just below Mountain Island dam. It is one of the most botanically diverse places in Mecklenburg County, with over 100 different species found on the 20-acre site. This preserve is not open to the public except through exclusive guided opportunities. We will take a moderate hike on the property, looking at some of the wonderful plants native to our region with naturalist Mary Stauble. After we’ll have a picnic lunch–bring your lunch and a lawn chair! Guests are welcome.

Spider Lily Paddle
Landsford Canal State Park, Catawba, SC
Tuesday, May 21, 9 am-1 pm OR Friday, May 31, 9 am-1 pm

The Catawba River is home to one of the world’s largest populations of Rocky Shoals Spider Lilies. During their peak bloom, from about mid-May to mid-June, these plants cover the river in a blanket of white. This is the signature Greenway Gals event, and space is limited.

Registration will open in late April, and is open to current Greenway Gals members. We offer two dates so everyone has a chance to experience the spider lilies.

Walk at Ballantyne Reimagined
Wednesday, September 25, 4 pm

Walk a portion of one of the newest designated Thread Trail segments at Ballantyne Reimagined. You can now access over 20 miles of trails on the Ballantyne campus from the Lower McAlpine Creek, McMullen Creek and Four Mile Creek Greenways. After exploring the trails we’ll meet up at Hestia Rooftop for happy hour.

Paddle from the Spencer Mountain Kayak Launch
Thursday, October 17, 11 am-2 pm

In 2023 the Greenway Gals donated over $13,000 to replace the launch structure at this CLC-owned kayak launch. Come see the results of this effort, and enjoy fall color as we paddle along this beautiful and historic part of the South Fork River. More details to come.

Mushroom Foray – TBD in late fall

Join us at the enchanting Laurel Hill Preserve to forage for fascinating fungi. We will delve into the mysteries of the mushroom, including their identification, cultivation and preservation. Small groups will explore the many microclimates of Laurel Hill and collect an array of colors, textures and sizes.
