Template- Native Wildflower Hike: 40 Acre Rock

Day of the Week, Month, Date| Start Time- End Time
40 Acre Rock
2550-2828 State Road S-29-27 Kershaw, SC
4 miles | Strenuous Nature Hike | Ages 10+

Join us as we hike this beautifully unique segment of the Carolina Thread Trail that weaves through the wonderful Forty Acre Rock Preserve.  Hear from South Carolina Master Naturalist John Ghent as he shows us some of the diverse and rare wild plants growing in unique vernal pools within this Heritage Preserve.  “This heritage preserve has over 17, rare, threatened or endangered species and communities, in 1984 this site was officially recognized as a National Natural Landmark.” One note, the vernal pools and plants within, are directly related to how much rainfall that we receive.  If the weather by chance is too dry we will see fewer wildflowers and spend more time exploring other natural features of the trail. The hike is mostly flat but also rocky and strenuous at times. Come out Tuesday morning and learn about this natural treasure within our community.  Pre-registration is required for this FREE tour. Register using the form below. Photo
