Grab your binoculars and get outside! Join Carolina Thread Trail and Great Outdoors University on a slow-paced, guided hike along a section of the Carolina Thread Trail (CTT).

Spring is on its way! This month we will start with a brief activity about the importance of pollinators and the role they play in shaping the landscape around us. Then we will head out on our easy 1 to 1.5 mile trail walk along the trail and see if we can spot any pollinators in action! This will be a great activity for families with young children.

Join Catawba Lands Conservancy and the Charlotte Amateur Astronomers Club for an evening of star gazing at Pharr Family Preserve! Learn about the planets and stars through interactive activities and kid-friendly crafts, take a walk on the 1.7 mile walking trail through the 66 acre preserve, or simply bring a blanket and gaze up at the stars.

Join us as we hike this beautiful segment of the Carolina Thread Trail that weaves past vernal pools, waterfalls, and rock outcrops of Forty Acre Rock Heritage Preserve. Our guide for this adventure will be John Ghent, South Carolina Master Naturalist and unofficial expert of this unique landmark. This preserve is home to many rare species of flora and fauna, including 17 species which are listed as federally threatened or endangered. After a picnic lunch (on us!), John will lead us on a 4 mile loop hike around the preserve. You do not want to miss this one!

Get your paddle muscles ready! Join us for a morning kayak trip along the South Fork (part of the Carolina Thread Trail Catawba River blueway network). Along the river we will catch a glimpse of two historic mills and hopefully spot a few blue herons, osprey, and other native wildlife.

This will be a moderate to intermediate paddle along a 5.5 mile stretch of the river from Spencer Mountain to McAden River Access. You must be able to swim to participate in this event. All gear will be provided.

A special thanks to our friends at Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation for providing the gear and river guides!
