INTERESTED IN BECOMING A
TRAIL MASTER?

Applications are now being accepted for our 2013 Trail Masters Program. We will select 16 volunteers by August 12 to participate in a free, four-day, trail building and trail maintenance certification course. It will be held October 1-10, 2013, at Anne Springs Close Greenway. There are some program eligibility requirements, including 40 hours of volunteer leadership annually for the next three years (see below for more on the requirements). The application deadline is August 7, 2013.

The course, which will be led by Trail Design Specialists Owner Mike Riter, will teach volunteers the latest sustainable trail building and maintenance techniques through classroom and on-trail instruction and demonstrations.

THANK YOU  Women’s Impact Fund!
This certification course is being funded by a generous grant from the Women’s Impact Fund. This grant has allowed The Thread to add 16 Trail Masters in 2012 and another 16 this year, bringing the expected total to 48 by the end of 2013. It’s also providing funding for other trail building and outreach initiatives.

“Our Trail Masters Program is a significant and important opportunity for us train some of our most dedicated volunteers in leadership roles so that they can help us build and maintain segments of the Carolina Thread Trail,” said Ann Browning, project director for the Carolina Thread Trail. “We can’t thank the Women’s Impact Fund enough for its generous support and funding for this program that will help us continue to provide trails to our communities.”

Trail Masters Eligibility Requirements:

Attend a four-day trail building school from Oct. 7-10, 2013.

Commit to 40 hours of volunteer leadership annually for the next three years.

Be 18 years of age or older.

Attend the volunteer workday on Oct. 18, 2013.

MORE INFO:
Launched in 2011, the Trail Masters Program has already certified 32 volunteers as Trail Masters. Increasing Trail Masters will allow The Thread to double the amount of volunteer hours specifically dedicated to trail building and move towards monthly volunteer workdays (hosting approximately 50 volunteers per workday). Current certified Trail Masters have already registered more than 800 volunteer hours since September of 2011. Click here for the application.
